Amanda Artsen

Dr. Artsen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Services at the University of Pittsburgh and a Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health (BIRCWH) scholar. As an academic surgeon-scientist, she divides her time between clinical duties, teaching, and research.  Her research on sustainable mesh materials aims to transform the field from using petroleum based plastic meshes to sustainable and biodegradable biomaterials. As the mother of three children she believes action must be taken now to avoid further environmental damage and ensure a safe and healthy future for all.
