Spring Book Club

On Monday June 4 at 6 pm please join us for our spring book club meeting to discuss "Gaviotas: A Village to Reinvent the World" by Alan Weisman. We will be joined by the author himself! On Feb 11-13, 2024, C4CA will attend the Medical Society Consortium on Climate and Health Annual Meeting: From the Clinic to the Capitol

The meeting will bring together several climate and health organizations to build a powerful, collective health professional movement for change.

Activating Health Professionals to Lead Climate Action

On Thursday Nov 8 at 3 pm EST, the National Academy of Medicine, Institute for Healthcare Improvement, Health Care Without Harm, and Practice Greenhealth invite health care leaders, professionals of all disciplines, people working in education and health care, and anyone interested in climate and health care to attend an upcoming webinar, Activating Health Professionals to Lead Climate Action.

August Book Club Selection: "The Heat Will Kill You First"

The Clinicians for Climate Action Book Club begins in August! Our first book selection is the New York Times bestseller "The Heat Will Kill You First" by Jeff Goodell. July 2023 was Earth's hottest month on record by a wide margin. In order to better understand the significance of this climate indicator, we will read and discuss this book together in person on Tuesday Aug 22. Pitt Sustainability Challenge Finalist Pitch Event

On Thursday Sept 14 at 9 am at the Petersen Events Center, five finalists in the Pitt Sustainability Challenge will pitch their solutions towards achieving carbon neutrality at Pitt by 2037. The winner will be awarded $300,000 to bring their idea to life.

Children's Environmental Health Day

Clinician's for Climate Action collaborated with several community partners including Tree Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Citiparks, Children's Hospital Pittsburgh, Children's Community Pediatrics, Pennsylvania Chapter of American Academy of Pediatrics and Women for a Healthy Environment, all to celebrate Children's Environmental Health Day. On October 13, 2022 at Wightman Park in Pittsburgh we provided free books, tree adoptions, frisbees and other educational materials to support environmental health for children and families.

Advocacy
National Public Health Advocacy Week

In March 2023 we participated in National Public Health Advocacy Week in partnership with Climate Action Campaign. Together with other health professionals from across the country we met at the U.S. Capitol to talk with members of Congress and their staff about the need for strong regulations on soot and methane in order to protect our health.

Earth Day

Clinicians for Climate Action celebrated its one-year anniversary on Earth Day at Tree Pittsburgh. We marked the occasion with dinner, drinks, music, a land acknowledgement and speeches from our group leaders.

CleanMed 2023

Clinicians for Climate Action attended the CleanMed 2023 conference in Pittsburgh. CleanMed is the premier conference for leaders in healthcare sustainability and in 2023 UPMC was the host sponsor. C4CA members Dr. Noe Woods, Dr. Isabela Angelelli, Dr. Maya Ragavan, Dr. Gabriel Cisneros, Dr. Michael Boninger,  Dr. Amanda Artsen, Holly Vogt, John Krolicki and Jon Polley all presented at the conference on a wide range of topics, including organizing healthcare professionals, partnering with community members, health benefits of trees and reducing food waste and plastics.
